Robert Hollingworth
Robert Hollingworth was a chorister at Hereford Cathedral, set up his first solo-voice ensemble at the age of 16 and read music at New College, Oxford, followed by a year at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. In place of a conventional academic career he has spent 35 years directing vocal groups, notably I Fagiolini. Robert founded I Fagiolini in 1986 and has spent much of his life thinking around how to present music of a different time and context to contemporary audiences. Under Robert’s artistic directorship, the group maintains a unique reputation for innovative and creative productions. Notable examples are ‘Tallis in Wonderland’, or the Gesualdo project ‘Betrayal – A polyphonic crime drama. The ensemble often works together with professionals in other disciplines.
Robert has conducted choirs all across Europe, like the Academy of Ancient Music, the BBC Concert Orchestra, RIAS Kammerchor, Chamber Choir Ireland and the BBC Singers. He has just directed his first course for the National Youth Choir of Great Britain. He was recently appointed as director of the Stour Music Festival in Kent.
