Mathieu Vulto studied flugelhorn, conducting and music in education at the Alkmaar/Amsterdam Music University and Schulmusik at the Hochschule für Musik in Hamburg. When he started his studies, he joined the university’s jazz choir and fell in love with vocal jazz immediately. Mathieu subsequently travelled to the United States, to work with vocal jazz legends Steve Zegree and Darmon Meader, and attended masterclasses by Kirby Shaw (scat vocal), Michele Weir, Phil Matson and Cedric Dent.
Mathieu is lecturer of Music in Education at NHLStenden and teaches Vocal Leadership in School at the Rotterdam Codarts Conservatory. He also conducts various choirs and offers workshops throughout the Netherlands, with a main focus on co-creative singing. In 2019, he graduated from the Royal Academy of Music in Denmark (RAMA) with a Masters’ Degree in Innovative Choir Leading.
