For several years, music educator Rohan Poldervaart experimented with the Vocal Leadership method in high schools in and around Utrecht. In this lecture, he gives insights into the project called ‘Vocal Statements’, where he develops music education programmes for primary and high schools. Rohan is always looking for a combination of different musical traditions. In getting students to sing together, the project fosters connections from the music to the cosmopolitical world the children live in and are a part of. Join this lecture to hear about the successes and struggles when giving pupils the freedom to create their own sound and songs.
