Experiencing makam microtones – Onur Türkmen

LEARN
workshop (90-150 min.)
composing - conducting
Friday 14.00 hrs
Academiegebouw

The makam is an ancient music concept that uses motifs in unique scales to convey messages. Onur Türkmen is one of the leading composers that combines this ancient technique with contemporary vocal music. In this workshop, you will work with Onur to experience traditional Turkish microtones that are used throughout authentic makams. Onur will provide a few miniatures that you will explore together – and who knows, maybe even develop further. A dedicated vocal ensemble will also join the session to sing the makam miniatures.
