The central hall of the Bibliotheek Neude (which by the way has great acoustics!) is the beating heart of Leading Voices. Here you will find various free activities. Get to know new music, sing and participate or listen to an inspiring story.
The EXPO itself is open from 9.00 – 18.00hrs.

Join us or learn something new at one of the presentations in the Tribune programme. You will find the Tribune stage under the escalators in Bibliotheek Neude. In the morning the language is English, in the afternoons Dutch.

Get to know all about the Carus App: a digital tool for conductors and choirs alike. This app has already helped many choral singers with effective rehearsal preparation. 10.45 hrs - Malala Speaks: children of the world sing for peace

Malala Speaks is inspired by Pakistani activist Malala Yousafzai (1997). From her words, award-winning composer Marion von Tilzer created a song to inspire, empower and connect children and youth in challenging times. This song is sung by children from all over the world. Malala Speaks is part of Marion’s series “Encounters with Remarkable Women”: a project that provides a means for children and youth to recognize their impact in a world. During this workshop you’ll discover great, especially contemporary, Catalan choral music while singing. Some of the composers will be present during the session. Language of communication is English.

12.15 hrs - Sing along for kids: Meet the East!

In this sing along, conductor Loes van Hapert gives children a glimpse into the world of Eastern music. In a playful way you get to know the sounds, instruments and scales of the Eastern world. Together you will sing songs accompanied by the Ud, an instrument that is often used in the Middle East. For children between 8-12 years old.

13.15 hrs - KBZON - Sing Along 'Blij je te horen' with Ruben de Grau

When, after the pandemic, the Dutch choral sector slowly got back on its feet, a new song was created to inspire the amateur choirs and singers in the Netherlands. Composer Jetse Bremer created the song ‘Blij je te horen’. During this workshop conductor Ruben de Grauw will teach you this song and help you sing it together. Read more.

EXPO stage – programme Saturday 30th July

The EXPO stage is presented by Mathilde Sanchez (F) and has English as its language. On this stage you will find performances by various choirs that sometimes also have a role elsewhere in the (main) program. In addition, everyone has the opportunity to make a presentation of 5 minutes or less during the Speakers Corner, for example to promote a book or event or to make a call for a talk or brainstorm. You can register every day for a place at the Speakers Corner at the central information desk, in Bibliotheek Neude.

In 2022, the famous Orfeó Català invites enthusiastic singers to the stage in the breathtaking ambiance of the Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona. The focus is Mozart’s Requiem with the Orchestra Simfònica del Vallès and conducted by David Lawrence.

Mexican visual artist Carlos Amorales had been working in Utrecht for several years developing a new work of art, commissioned by the city of Utrecht. He has chosen choral singing as his main material for this piece. The piece will be presented to Utrecht in October 2022. In this interview Carlos tells all about this special project! The choir has been around for 28 years. Together they have been on many choir tours to places such as Glasgow, Brighton, Calpe and Trier where many awards have been won. They also perform regularly at festivals and parties. Lake District Sound is a close and friendly club of men who love to sing together.

15.00 hrs - Collective/participatory creation process in vocal practices - Prospective and partnership

Many projects or events are looking forward to being more participative and collaborative. As an example, Musique en Territoires organizes a Singing Roadshow session every year, a 3/4 days of learning by doing, ending with a collective creation with a group of 40 to 50 people in A Cappella music. Many organisations are leading similar projects in a formal or informal, punctual or regular way. What are the artistic, pedagogical, social and civic stakes of these projects? In what time frame do they take place? What new skills are mobilized and necessary? Language is communication is English.

The World Symposium on Choral Music will be held in Istanbul on 25-30 April 2023! Burak Onur Erdem will inform us about the latest news about the WSCM. You can also come to the IFCM booth in Expo and learn more about the programs the symposium offers this year. Let’s meet in the theme of “Changing Horizons” and appreciate the diverse traditions of singing in Istanbul! Language of communication is English

14.15 - 17.15 hrs - Vocal Care Corner

If you often have a hoarse voice or pain in your vocal cords during or after singing, come along to the Vocal Care Corner. Every afternoon you’ll find specialists from the Dutch Association of Vocal Pedagogues who are ready to help you solve this. The sessions will be 15 minutes long. Do you want to work on a specific problem? Then please bring your sheet music in duplicate.

Today, specialists Luthine Postuma (Classical) and Gwen van Genderen – (CVT/Pop/Rock/Musical) are at the Vocal Care Corner to help you.

On Thursday and Friday in the intimate boardroom (Directiekamer) and on Saturday in the Laboratory (Laboratorium) where they can also accommodate larger groups. Read more about the specialists.

In the hall of the library you will also find a market with music publishers, (inter)national choir music organisations and festivals and much more. Discover new music or make travel plans for 2023, 2024 and beyond! The EXPO is freely accessible every day between 9.00 and 18.00.
