The central hall of the Bibliotheek Neude (which by the way has great acoustics!) is the beating heart of Leading Voices. Here you will find various free activities. Get to know new music, sing and participate or listen to an inspiring story.
The EXPO itself is open from 9.00 – 18.00hrs.

TRIBUNE stage – programme Thursday 28th July

Join us or learn something new at one of the presentations in the Tribune programme. You will find the Tribune stage under the escalators in Bibliotheek Neude. In the morning the language is English, in the afternoons Dutch.

10.15 hrs - Hal Leonard: Presentation SAM-Klang series

Renowned Danish conductor Morten Schuldt-Jensen gives a comprehensive overview of the new SAM-Klang. SAM-Klang is aimed at choirs that lack male voices. SAM-Klang is arranged for soprano, alto and one male voice and is suitable for choirs of all levels. During the session, participants are introduced to the music while singing. 10.45 hrs - Vocalise App: Presentation of a voice training app

The holistic voice training app Vocalise is designed for choral singers of all levels with a classical background, but also suitable in a broader context. The app helps singers express themselves more freely and use their voices in a healthy way. Join in with the exercises that you can also find in the app. Language of communication is English.

11.15 hrs - Presentation: Songs for Europe

Songs for Europe is a project about sharing knowledge about music pedagogy for choral singing teachers. The tools developed in the project, an online library of repertoire and teaching materials help both students and teachers. Songs for Europe is associated with Gerard Wirth, one of the session leaders of Leading Voices. Language of communication is English

11.45 hrs - Dutch Choral Music NOW: project and repertoire presentation by New Geneco

The platform Dutch Choir Music NOW was developed during the pandemic. A choir conductor commissioned a number of women composers to write short and simple compositions. The result can be found on a special website and offers more than 30 compositions for women’s choirs (also applicable for men’s voices). All compositions are free to download and are supported by audio files. Language of communication is English.

15.15 hrs - Discovering Sounds - Singing Games For Children

Zeynep Eren Kovankaya will be hosting ‘Discovering Sounds – Singing games for children’. It’s fun for children to become aware of how rich their sounds are. Yawning, crying, laughing, screaming or even talking can demonstrate different ways of using your voice.  The children will be discovering their voices with some singing games and practices. Discovering Sounds is for children aged 8-12 and will be in English.

15.45 hrs - Film screening: documentary Stem des Volks

In 2021 the Utrecht choir Stem des Volks (Voice of the People) celebrated its 90th anniversary. Founded in 1931 as part of the socialist labor movement, the choir now has a long tradition, but also an eye to the future. At 15.45 one of the singers of the choir will introduce the documentary.

There is already a lot of music to be found in Library Neude. Musicanet is an online music library, specialized in choir music. You will get a glimpse of how you can use this online library for your choir. Language of communication is English.

Find out all about a new, international choral music festival inspired by the music of Ēriks Ešenvalds. This is a project of CHORALSPACE in 2023, which ends with a grandiose sing-along concert in the Berliner Philharmonie. Language of communication is English.

15.00 hrs - Musique en Territoires: Presentation Pilot study disabilities and well-being

The French organization Musique en Territoires is setting up a pilot study entitled ‘For an Observation of Raising Welcoming Activities Regarding Disability (FORWARD) & Psychic-health Psycho-social Risks & Wellbeing (2PRW) for Singers’. This study is launched in the framework of the MusiCAIRE call of the European Music Council (EMC). Language of communication is English.

15.15 hrs - Zing magazine interviews Thomas Hessels

In October Publisher ZINGMagazine will publish Zang pur sang. The book describes the development over sixty years of light choral music in the Netherlands. From vocal groups that brought the ‘American’ close harmony to the Netherlands in the 1960s to the pop choirs of today. This fascinating history has never been charted before. Oswin Schneeweisz, editor-in-chief of ZINGmagazine, will discuss this with the two authors: Thomas Hessels and Harm Peter Smilde.

13.45 -17.15 hrs - Vocal Care Corner

If you often have a hoarse voice or pain in your vocal cords during or after singing, come along to the Vocal Care Corner. Every afternoon you’ll find specialists from the Dutch Association of Vocal Pedagogues who are ready to help you solve this. The sessions will be 15 minutes long. Do you want to work on a specific problem? Then please bring your sheet music in duplicate.

Today, specialists Luthine Postuma (Classical) and Frank Hermans (Klassiek) are at the Vocal Care Corner to help you.

On Thursday and Friday in the intimate boardroom (Directiekamer) and on Saturday in the Laboratory (Laboratorium) where they can also accommodate larger groups. Read more about the specialists.

In the hall of the library you will also find a market with music publishers, (inter)national choir music organisations and festivals and much more. Discover new music or make travel plans for 2023, 2024 and beyond! The EXPO is freely accessible every day between 9.00 and 18.00 hrs.
